Round 1 of Submissions closes APRIL 9th, 2012!

All submissions wishing to be considered for acceptance should be submitted by April 9th. All submissions received after that time will be looked at after the summer. When we return to school for the Fall, we will begin to consider the newer submissions that missed the April 9th deadline.

This does not mean that April 9th is the last time you can submit to Subtext, but it ensures it will be looked at while we are the least busy as we are finalizing our decisions for the 1st half of our submission process.

Anonymous asked: I am planning a research day about the questions raised by feminism today when it overlaps with gender, queer or post-colonial studies. It will take place on on Saturday March 17th at the Wyoming Building, one of the exhibition space of the Goethe Institute New York. We would like to invite you to be part of our library with your magazine. Please let us know if you have any questions and if you could send us a display copy of the issues you find relevant for this topic. Contact: clara@ludlow38.o

Please contact us via email for copies of the magazine and for further discussion. :) subtextsubmissions@gmail.com

gofagyrself asked: how many pages and/or poems can one submit to the magazine? thank you!

Last issue, we allowed people to choose how many poems they wanted to submit. Until we have our first meeting of Spring 2012, I’ll have to say that 4-5 poem max submission if you want to submit more than one.

As for fiction/non-fiction and the like, we have a 3,000 word cap, though would prefer closer to 2,500

anonsy-anonso asked: I recently quoted the lovely piece by Jazmine Davis on a new literature blog I'm running with some friends. The blog is called nooksandbooks and I linked to this blog and whatnot. :) Thought I'd give you guys a heads up. I'll probably do a feature on Subtext once the blog gets going and I'll be quoting every so often!

That’s fantastic! We’re glad you enjoyed the magazine & Jazmine’s piece enough to be quoting it!

Hope you continue to enjoy and submit something someday!

Announcements!!

We have opened up submissions once again!

We are forgoing a Spring 2012 issue in favor of raising money and creating a larger magazine to be published in conjunction with Pride Awareness Month 2013!

What this means:

  1. We’ll have submissions open almost the entire year, starting now until late 2012.
  2. More submissions will be accepted (though we won’t accept submissions solely because we need to fill space. We will accept those who are worthy of publication)
  3. There will be no published issue in 2012.
  4. We will devote the entire year to promotion, editing submissions, accepting/rejecting submissions, and carefully designing the magazine.

Also, we are welcoming our new President/Business Manager: Amber!

She will be taking over all business aspects of the magazine, and we look forward to her contributions!

 Again!

Submissions are open!! Please submit all forms of writing (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, etc) and art (photography, paintings, sculptures, etc)
